Funeral Luncheons

Our parish provides a luncheon after funerals for a deceased member’s family and friends upon request. Volunteers are needed to prepare a dish, solicit entrees and help set up, serve and clean up after the luncheon.  Time commitment:  varies/as needed. Please contact the parish office.

 

Homeless Shelter Volunteer

The Homeless Coalition of Southern Indiana has a White Flag shelter open from November 15 - April 15.  Shelter is located in Clark or Floyd County (location subject to change). Our Lady's volunteers serve throughout this time period when the temperatures are 35 degrees or lower for more than 4 consecutive hours between 7pm and 7am. There are three shifts of volunteers throughout the night.  Time commitment:  November 15 through April 15, usually about once a month.  Contact Katelyn Stumler at 812-945-1495

 

Ministry of Consolation

The Ministry of Consolation exists to console parishioners experiencing grief from a variety of losses. Our consolation efforts include correspondence, resources for coping and understanding, and seasonal programs or rituals for healing. Prayer Blanket Ministry

This ministry invites individuals with any level of sewing or crocheting/knitting skills to make Cancer Caps, prayer blankets for newborns or anyone with an illness.  As they are being made they are prayed over and then blessed by Father and the congregation sending support and prayers to the individual who receives it.  They are available in the vestibule or the Parish office.  Time Commitment:  weekly or sew from home.  Coordinator:  Jean Bickwermert.  Please contact the parish office for Coordinator contact information.

 

Pro-Life Ministry

While keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the Our Lady pro-life committee exists to promote life from conception to natural death in our families, parish, community and Archdiocese. We are committed to actively increasing awareness, praying and fasting for the conversion of hearts, and building and supporting pro-life efforts in our community.  Time commitment:  monthly meetings.  Contact Katelyn Stumler 812-945-1495.

 

Resurrection Choir

The resurrection choir is “on call” to sing at parish funerals when needed. Most funerals are scheduled on weekday mornings. Men and women are welcome to join.  Contact Katelyn Stumler at 812-945-1495

 

Soup Kitchen-Fridays

Our parish partners with other local churches in operating community soup kitchens on Friday evenings. Volunteers are needed to cook, bake, set up/clean up and serve meals.  Time commitment:  varies.  Coordinator: Karen Johnson.  Please contact parish office for Coordinator contact info. 

 

St. Vincent de Paul Society

SVDP is an outreach organization for our parish that strives to meet social, material and spiritual needs of people in the local community who call our church for assistance. Visitation Ministry

Volunteers assist the pastoral staff with distributing communion to the sick of our parish in homes, hospitals, rehab centers, and nursing homes. Bible Study Facilitators

Our Lady offers a variety of Bible Studies throughout the year. Some meet during the day, some meet in the evening, and one is just for women! Childcare is provided as needed. Volunteers are needed to facilitate small group discussions and to provide child care.  Time commitment:  1.5-2.5 hours per week, for the duration of the particular study.  Contact Joe Fey at 812-945-1647

 

Confirmation Prep Volunteer

The Holy Sacrament of Confirmation is offered each year in October for high school age youth.  A period of formation and catechesis is required as well as a personal retreat experience.  Volunteers are needed to   facilitate small group study and offer their personal experience as witness speakers.

 

Evangelization Team

The Evangelization Team exists to review all the various ministries and activities of our parish and to determine how they serve the mission of evangelization.  The Evangelization team may also develop new ideas, approaches, or ministries, that would serve the goals of evangelization. The Evangelization Team exists to foster a grace-filled community that inspires our parishioners, and our community, to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and then go forth share their faith, and their joy, with others.

 

Faith First: Faith Formation for Children Ages 4-Grade 4 

Faith First is our faith formation program for children in preschool through 4th grade. It meets on Sundays from 10:00am-am, August through April. This program teaches the basics of the Catholic faith and supplements faith formation in the home. Volunteers receive supervision, training, and materials.  Time Commitment:  1.5 hours weekly, August-April.  Contact Evonne Corrales at 812-944-2065.

 
First Communion Prep Volunteer

The Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist is offered each year.  A period of formation and catechesis is required.  Volunteers are needed to assist Faith First Sacrament Prep or help at the annual First Communion retreat.

 

Lenten Retreat 

Our parish offers an annual retreat for parishioners each Lent. The retreat team consists of lay parishioners with the pastor serving as spiritual director. The retreat is over a 3 day period: Thursday and Friday 6:00-9:30 p.m., and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to noon. We are looking for people to give talks, facilitate small group discussions, prepare and serve meals, provide music and song and create a retreat environment.  Time commitment:  Team formation begins in January with meetings scheduled by the retreat director as needed.  Contact Joe Fey at 812-945-1647

 
Parish Mission Team

The Parish Mission Team works to develop special mission events that offer all parishioners a way to find and develop a deeper faith through presentations on catechesis and the sacraments. Our Parish Missions normally occurs every other year. 

 

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) 

The OCIA is a process by which adults (candidates) are prepared for entry into the Catholic Church. Volunteers are needed to serve as team members or sponsors. Team members assist the OCIA Director in implementing the process. Sponsors assist the candidate as a friend, companion or mentor.  Time commitment:  Weekly on Wednesday evenings August-May with some flexibility.  Contact Joe Fey at 812-945-1647

 

Young Adult Faith Sharing

Young adult faith sharing is a small group that meets to study our faith. This group uses a variety of materials including the bible, spiritual books and videos to support their faith journey. Focused on deepening our faith by sharing and learning from one another.

Hospitality Ministry

This ministry helps with set-up and food prep for our monthly Coffee & Donuts and other parish sponsored gatherings, such as Faith, Food & Fellowship. 

 

Marriage Preparation Sponsor Couples

Sponsor couples are married couples of at least five years who assist engaged couples in preparing for marriage. Sponsor couples meet each engaged couple an average of three times to discuss the practical and spiritual dimensions to married life.  Training and resources provided.  Sponsor couples may see 2 engaged couples a year.  Contact Colleen White at 812-944-1184

 

Men’s Club

This group is open to all men 21 and older in the parish. Regular monthly meetings are in process for networking and discerning an identity and mission for the group. Prayer Line

The Prayer Line consists of parishioners who are contacted weekly by email, fax, or US mail at home to receive and pass on prayer requests made by individuals. Prime Timers

Athletic Coach

 

Athletic Committee Member 

The Athletic Committee organizes and coordinates sports programs for our parish community for youth in grades preeK-12.  They hold regular business meetings, recruit and train coaches, help maintain equipment and the gym and more. 

 

Parent Teacher Organization

The PTO exists to promote a clearer understanding of the mutual educational responsibilities of parents and teachers associated with our parish school.  The PTO holds monthly business meetings and sponsors some social/educational and fund raising events.  Funds raised are used to supplement areas of need in the school; i.e., purchase of equipment, technology, teacher and instructional supplies, etc.  Volunteers are needed to run for office annually and to coordinate the various events.  Coordinator: Jessica House.  Please contact parish office for Coordinator contact info.

Altar Servers

Altar servers consist of early and older adolescents, both male and female. They assist the priest at the altar throughout the Mass. Training is provided.  Time commitment:  One weekend Mass every two months.  Coordinator:  Father Doug 

  

Cantors

Cantors are accompanied by organ, piano or guitar. They lead the congregation in singing at Saturday evening Mass (and Sunday morning Masses during the summer).  Time commitment:  Once a month/as needed.  Contact Katelyn Stumler at 812-945-1495

 

 Children’s Choir

This choir is composed of children in grades 2-4. Members sing monthly for weekend liturgies and other parish events.  Contact Katelyn Stumler at 812-945-1495

 

 Children’s Liturgy of the Word

This occurs during the Liturgy of the Word at the 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning Mass. Volunteers are needed to lead children in prayer, song and reflection of the Sunday readings.  Church Decoration

 Contemporary Choir

This choir is accompanied by string instruments and piano. Members practice weekly and sing at the 11:00 a.m. Sunday Mass. Open to men and women high school age and older.  Time commitment:  9 months of the year (summer break).  Contact Katelyn Stumler at 812-945-1495

 

 Eucharistic Minister

The Eucharistic Minister assists the Pastor during the Communion Rite of Mass. There are “Host Ministers” and “Cup Ministers.”  Time commitment:  One weekend Mass every 3-4 weeks.  Coordinator: Lori Hamilton.  Please contact parish office for Coordinator contact info. 

 

 First Friday Adoration

Our parish hosts a day of Eucharistic adoration on the First Friday of each month.  Parishioners are asked to make a visit before the Blessed Sacrament throughout the day.

 

 Greeter

Greeters welcome people at the church doors prior to Sunday and Holy Day Masses and distribute bulletins at the end of Mass.  Coordinator Hugh Ernstberger.  Please contact parish office for Coordinator contact info.

 

 Lector

Lectors are also called Ministers of the Word. Two lectors are scheduled for each weekend Mass.  They read parish announcements before Mass begins, proclaim the first and second scripture readings prior to the Gospel, and lead the Prayers of the Faithful.  Time commitment:  One weekend Mass every 4-6 weeks.  Coordinator: Michelle James.  Please contact parish office for Coordinator contact info.  

 

 Traditional Choir

 Ushers

Ushers collect the offering and assist people during the communion procession at Sunday Mass. Building and Grounds Committee/Volunteer

Our grounds and facilities require a great deal of care and continuing maintenance.  Professional or skilled craftsmen often handle major maintenance.  Volunteers may do minor maintenance (gardening, painting, some cleaning, etc.).  Time commitment: As needed.  Coordinators:  Terry Spitznagel and Rich Combs.  Please contact parish office for Coordinator contact info.

High School Youth Group

Our Lady will offer youth group experiences for high school youth. Topics and activities include both contemporary and theological issues of interest to our youth. Live music, prayer and worship are just some of the other highlights of this exciting program. Middle School Youth Group
